Rayon und Viskose sind im Wesentlichen dasselbe, und die Begriffe werden oft austauschbar verwendet. Bei beiden handelt es sich um künstlich hergestellte Stoffe aus natürlichen Zellulosefasern, in der Regel aus Holzzellstoff, und das Herstellungsverfahren ist ähnlich. Allerdings gibt es leichte Unterschiede im Produktionsprozess und im Endprodukt. Mit Rayon wird häufig eine bestimmte Art von Viskose bezeichnet, die in einem leicht abweichenden Verfahren hergestellt wird, was zu einem glänzenderen und seidigeren Gewebe führt. Viskose hingegen ist ein allgemeinerer Begriff, der eine Vielzahl von Stoffen auf Zellulosebasis umfasst, die häufig in Kleidung und Textilien verwendet werden.
